Britain’s Luke Campbell is aiming to join fellow 2012 Olympic Gold medallist Anthony Joshua in becoming World Champion when he tackles WBA Lightweight Kingpin Jorge Linares in California in the early hours on Sunday Live on Sky Sports Main Event.
Linares is well known to Brits having beaten Anthony Crolla twice and Kevin Mitchell in a gruelling encounter in 2015. The Venezuelan has not lost in the last 5 years and has won his last 11 fights.
Campbell who is 29 brings a record of 17 wins (14 KO’s) and only 1 defeat suffered at the hands of Yvan Mendy via split decision in 2015 on the Joshua v Whyte card at the O2. He is currently on a 5 fight win streak and in his last outing he faced Darleys Perez at a packed Wembley Stadium getting the victory in the 9th round after Perez had signalled to the referee he was injured and unable to continue.
‘Cool hand’ started his Boxing journey at St. Paul’s Amateur Boxing Club in Hull and was a standout Amateur. In 2011 he claimed a Silver medal at the AIBA World championships and a year later he was crowned Olympic champion in London.
On Sunday morning he will be aiming to collect his first professional World title but Linares will not give up the belt easily.
